We’ve always had a love for Christmas! We’re spreading that joy and cheer through animated lights synchronized to music.
Growing up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Justin started the city’s largest Christmas display when he was just a teenager in the 1990s. It became a popular stop for tour buses and Justin made all of his own props. They were so amazing that someone tried to steal them and Justin’s display made the newspaper when the thief was caught.
Sherry’s love of Christmas revolves around traditions and family memories. When she went to college, she took a course to learn how to use microcontrollers for interactive art installations. That’s where she built a “Gift of Diversity” — which, when its lid is opened, chooses a random geographical location and Christmas song and video from that location:
She also came up with the concept for Mokena Lights’ Tribute Tree: a display of tributes to friends and loved ones.
Both born in Canada, they met in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois and have made Christmas part of their travel adventures ever since. They’ve spent many vacations at European Christmas markets, Elf School, and Santa Claus Village in the Arctic Circle in Finland. Santa even named them the Christmas couple of the month!
